Old Wyke Village

Old Wyke Village is a small village of fisherman’s cottages and his home to the Wyke Social Club, All Saints church (which is famous for being frequented by George III during his summer visits to Weymouth) and The Old Albert Pub, a small pub used mainly by the Wyke locals and teh excellent village stores.

Wyke Village hosts a carol evening in Wyke Square during the Christmas period with a Christmas tree as a fundraising event for local charities which much of the local community participate in.

Another Christmas tradition and fundraising event which can be found within the Wyke area is the decorating of some houses with thousands of Christmas lights, when people go to look at the lights they are encouraged to donate some money to the charity buckets outside the houses.

In the past Wyke and the local people of Wyke have been renowned for looting and smuggling off Chesil Beach, where there are two converging tides and the vast length of Chesil Beach, boats and ships would often run ashore and upon doing so they would be looted by the Wyke locals.

Wyke’s position next to Chesil Beach also provided an easy way for smuggling to occur as it would be difficult to patrol all of Chesil Beach, especially during night time hours.

Wyke’s reputation for looting and smuggling has been immortalised by the name of the local Wyke pub ‘The Wyke Smugglers’, where nowadays you can go in and play pool or darts, sing karaoke or listen to a local band.

Wyke Regis is also home to Wyke Regis Junior School and All Saints Senior School, both of which have excellent reputations.

All three schools in Wyke Regis are considered to be some of the best in the local area so Wyke is a popular area for families to relocate to because of its catchment opportunities.

All Saints Church is at the top of the village and is a beautiful traditional styled building with a thriving local congregation, they have 8am and 9.30am services on a Sunday, more details can be found on their website www.parishofwykeregis.org.uk so please visit them if you're in the area on holiday or looking for some companionship.
